Disengagement, DDR & Reintegration Support

About this program:

People who leave armed groups need a safe way out and a place to return to.

The Baobab Group supports pathways for surrender, rehabilitation, reintegration and community acceptance, so that disengagement leads to lasting change. Communities are part of the process, because they lead the agenda, and we work alongside legitimate national authorities, because we support, not replace, state authority.

This work is one of the clearest examples of non-kinetic engagement complementing legitimate security operations.

In practice (illustrative example) Before a person returns home, the receiving community may be consulted and prepared so that acceptance begins before reintegration does. Authorities, community leaders and support services each have a defined role.
