Sovereign Dialogue Facilitation

About this program:

Lasting peace depends on people being able to talk before disputes turn violent. The Baobab Group facilitates inclusive dialogue between governments, communities and stakeholders at all levels, so that the people affected by a conflict help shape how it is resolved.

Our role is to support, not replace, state authority. Communities lead the agenda, so that solutions are locally owned and legitimate. We tailor our engagement to the different groups and motivations involved and we begin with practical local issues in order to build trust and confidence. Our work is flexible, confidential and results-oriented.

In practice (illustrative example) A dialogue may begin by bringing local authorities and community representatives together around one practical local issue. Once trust has built, the same group can take on wider questions, with state officials at the table throughout.

Key points

  • Inclusive dialogue at every level
  • State authority supported, not replaced
  • Communities lead the agenda
  • Flexible and confidential engagement
From our strategy
